Unconventional Pairs
More often than not, fashion is about taking risks and stepping out of comfort zones. That’s what I’ve been trying to do since the start of the year, as part of my New Year’s resolution. If there’s one thing I like about Fashionistas/os who walk around campus and stand out amongst the crowd, it’s definitely their bravery and confidence. I love getting the vibe that they can pull off any look, and sometimes it makes me wish I had a similar poise.
That’s exactly how I felt when I spotted this Fashionista frolicking around the school gardens in a loose, floral top and the most distinctive pair of shoes. The colors explode in such a pop culture kind of way — like it was pulled right out of a Katy Perry music video! It’s definitely a unique ensemble — one I would never think of putting together. But somehow, the way it breaks away from what’s conventional is what makes it work. You’ve got to admire this lovely lady for her valor!
In a career and fashion talk I once attended by Amina Aranaz-Alunan, co-founder of School of Fashion and the Arts and designer of the renowned Aranaz bags, I learned that fashion is about experimenting and trying new looks. In doing so, one’s aesthetic taste can be refined. As young and aspiring Fashionistas/os, I think this is one piece of advice we all ought to remember. Why stick to the conventional and blend in when you can be unconventional and stand out?
