The Lazy Girl’s Guide to Makeup Must-Haves
I’m probably one of the laziest people when it comes to putting on makeup. My daily beauty routine usually consists of just one thing—applying my lip balm. But on days when my kikay side kicks in, I usually have staple products in my bag that are all quick and easy to put on.
I’m a huge fan of the natural look. And to achieve this, I go with Jeremy Renner’s advice to women: (Quick Trivia: Before playing Hawkeye and all his other tough guy stints in movies, he admitted to being a makeup artist) “Brows, Lashes, Lips. Frame the face. It’s simple. It’s five minutes.”
So following this tip, here’s how I frame mine:
Step 1: Prime the face.
It was only something I learned to do after working as a content writer for Glamourbox. After washing the face and wiping it dry, use a primer before anything else. This allows for an easier application of your makeup, and helps it to last the entire day. Thanks to Glamourbox, I discovered BareNaturals Skin Perfecting Liquid Primer (Php 398)—which doesn’t clog the pores, keeps the face free of oil, and is made of pure ingredients that helps the skin stay healthy.
Step 2: Even it out.
Using the Face Shop’s Quick and Clean BB Cream (Php 625), I cover up blemishes and other unwanted spots to even out my skin. Place some on the tip of your ring finger and pat on your forehead, nose, cheeks, and chin. Spread it gently upwards. If you have a sponge, you can use this to spread and blend in the product. To keep the face free of oil, I also use Clinique’s face powder, which comes in the same color.
Step 3: Make or break with your brows.
How you do your brows can either make or break your look. Choose the wrong shade or doing them too dark might frame your face the wrong way. Opt for a color that suits your skin tone. I use the Face Shop’s Face It Designing Cake Eyebrow (approximately Php 500), which comes in two colors that complement my fair complexion.
Step 4: Add color to your cheeks!
For a pinkish, healthy glow—I use Benefit’s Posie Tint (Php 1,200). It’s one of my favorite beauty products in my bag. Just dab a few drops on the apples of your cheeks and spread in circles evenly.
Step 5: Bubblegum Lips
Again, thanks to Glamourbox, I discovered a lip product I instantly fell in love with—BareNaturals Vitamin Stix in Butterfly Kisses (Php 148). It’s a great color that goes well with my skin tone, and it leaves a light feel compared to lipsticks.
That’s pretty much it! If you have time and would want to add a more dramatic effect, you can always line your lids with liquid eyeliner, curl your lashes, and apply mascara. I use Bloom’s liquid eyeliner in jet black (Php 650) (I find the tip really easy to draw with, and it dries quickly), Shu Uemura’s eyelash curler (Php 1,250) (I love this! It curls your lashes perfectly!), and Eye of Horus mascara (Php 980) (again, a product I discovered through Glamourbox) for a natural yet goddess-like guise.
Don’t forget! At the end of the day, it’s a big no-no to keep makeup on as it clogs pores and can cause skin to breakout. Use a gentle makeup remover like the Face Shop’s Black Bamboo Deep Clean Makeup Remover (Php 400) and wash face well with your facial cleanser.
