Skincare for Pregnant Women: My Current Skincare Routine
When I found out I was pregnant, one of the first things I did was check my current skincare routine. I read on multiple beauty and baby care sites that retinol should be avoided while pregnant. While none of the previous products I used had retinol, I wanted to make sure everything else I was using was still safe! So I consulted with my best friend, who happens to be a first-time mom and a dermatologist. I also checked in with my OB, who only said I should stay away from retinol. If you’re wondering what is safe skincare for pregnant women, check out my current routine!
Skincare for Pregnant Women: Daytime Routine
One thing I did remove from my routine is salicylic acid. Though some sources say that it’s safe for pregnant women, I didn’t want to risk it. I changed my sunscreen brand as well and went for Avene since they’re one of my most trusted brands. Below is my daytime routine. I linked the products to Lazada or their official online stores in case you’re interested to buy them. Just a disclaimer that some are affiliate links where I may earn a small commission to help me maintain my blog.
CLEANSER: Kiehl’s Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash (P1,825)
I started using this when I ran out of my Avene Eau Thermale Cleanance Gel, which is a facial wash I’ve been using since college. I thought it was about time I tried something new for a change. And Kiehl’s definitely did not disappoint! Once or twice a week, I wash my face with this product together with FOREO’s Luna 3 for an even deeper cleanse.
TONER: Good Molecules Niacinamide Brightening Toner (P875)
When my best friend got pregnant, she stuck with ingredients like niacinamide and Vitamin C. So I copied her! It’s my first time using Good Molecules’ Niacinamide Brightening Toner, which the brand gave when they launched here. It’s an alcohol-free toner that promotes bright, even skin and less visible pores. I hope that continued use can also prevent skin discoloration, which can happen to pregnant women.
EYE CREAM: AHC The Real Eye Cream for Face (P1,350)
The name of this product still confuses me! Haha. But I do use it as my daytime eye cream because of its lightweight formula. My skin easily absorbs it and it doesn’t feel sticky nor heavy.
SUNSCREEN: Avene Day Protector UV EX (P1,600)
As mentioned, I switched my sunscreen brand to Avene because of how much I trust the brand. But this product can be a little hard to find online. If I run out, I might go back to Anessa’s Perfect UV Sunscreen Milk (P1,990). I messaged Anessa already to ask if their sunscreen is safe for pregnant women, and they answered yes.
Skincare for Pregnant Women: Evening Routine
For my evening routine, I use the same cleanser and toner. But I added hyaluronic acid and Vitamin C to the mix!
SERUM: L’Oreal Paris Revitalift Hyaluronic Acid Serum (P1,229)
I’ve always been a huge fan of using hyaluronic acid. This ingredient helps retain moisture in the skin. Ever since I started using it a few years ago, my skin looked healthier and bouncier! Lately, I’ve been using L’Oreal’s Revitalift Hyaluronic Acid Serum, which the brand gave. Other hyaluronic acid serums I’ve tried and tested are COSRX Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Power Essence and Good Molecules Hyaluronic Acid Serum. Both are more affordable, too.
AMPOULE: BRTC Vitalizer C-10 Ampoule (1,782)
I think this product has been the key to my glowing skin lately. It’s my first time using Vitamin C in my skincare routine, and I wish I had added it sooner! I have a lot of friends who vouch for the ingredient and now I’m a believer.
EYE CREAM: Innisfree Jeju Orchid Eye Cream (P899)
I’ve been using this eye cream for a while now all thanks to my sister who gave me a jar after her trip to Korea a few years ago. Since the consistency is thicker compared to AHC’s The Real Eye Cream for Face, I prefer using it at night to really lock in moisture.
MOISTURIZER: AHC 365 Red Cream (P2,549)
This is the same moisturizer I’ve been using in my previous routine. It’s made with natural ingredients so I think it’s safe for pregnant women!
Skincare for Pregnant Women: Once a Week Routine
Once a Week Routine Skincare for Pregnant Women
Once a week, I like to use sheet masks to pamper my skin. I have several from AHC stored in the refrigerator. But on days I want to treat myself to a spa-like experience at home, I use my FOREO UFO 2. Their H2Overdose smart mask is my favorite, which is infused with hyaluronic acid.
