I often write articles on my blog about Booboo and Bellatrix or post about them on social media. In case you missed it, I’ve written an article on the best pet food brand for them as well as how to take care of them. But for the first time ever, my husband and I were able to sit down with their veterinarian, Dr. Karina Bernert, on our podcast, Co-Capts! In our latest episode, we talked about Booboo and Bellatrix’s daily routine. We also shared some pet care tips that other pet parents might be able to learn from.
A Few Pet Care Tips I’d Like to Share
I constantly say that having a pet is a huge responsibility and commitment. It’s practically like having your own children! You need to feed them, bathe them, play with them, and bring them to the vet regularly. Below are a few pet care tips I’d like to share that we discussed on the podcast as well.
Feed Them Food That’s Specific to Their Breed or Species
When Booboo was growing up, I was always against him eating table food. I made sure he only ate dog food. We experimented with different brands but in the end, he preferred Royal Canin’s Adult Shih Tzu. This is because feeding pets table food can lead to serious impacts on their health and bring about negative behavioral patterns. There are some human foods that are safe for them but I make sure to limit their intake. While Booboo eats Royal Canin’s Adult Shih Tzu, Bella loves the Royal Canin Adult Persian. Sometimes, we treat them to boiled chicken breast fillet that’s seasoned very, very lightly with salt. But most of the time, they stick to their respective dog and cat food.
Get Them a Water Fountain
Investing in water fountains was one of the best decisions we ever made. We currently have two: one in our bedroom and another one near the stairs in our house. Water fountains make both Booboo and Bellatrix drink more often. I like that they come with filters that I change once a month. So I’m assured that they always drink clean water.
More Pet Care Tips on Co-Capts The Podcast
If you want to know more pet care tips, we shared a whole bunch on Co-Capts The Podcast! Catch our second episode with a licensed veterinarian, Dr. Karina Bernert. The podcast is available on Spotify, Apple, and Google. Don’t forget to also follow us on Instagram at @cocapts!
I got inspired to write this post because someone asked on Best of the Best Manila (I love being a part of that Facebook group! It’s so helpful!) what the best pet CCTV was in monitoring her dog and being able to talk to him. A lot reacted to my response, so I decided to share it here as well!
Ever since I got married and moved into a studio unit with the Cupcake, Booboo, and Bellatrix (READ: Life Lately: Living in Our Studio Unit in Makati), we’ve been using two cameras to monitor our dog and cat, especially while we’re away at work. It was all the Cupcake’s idea, because he knew that Booboo suffers from separation anxiety and isn’t used to having zero human companion. Having the cameras also put me more at ease—knowing that I could easily check up on Booboo while I was in the office.
When it comes to gadgets and technology in general, I just trust the Cupcake with all his decisions. He’s the most tech-savvy person I know, and loves reading up on or watching YouTube videos of what’s new in the world of technology. Choosing our pet CCTV cameras was also like choosing what phone or laptop to buy—he really scoured through different reviews, compared brands (Furbo and Petcube were options from Amazon, but both were a little bit over our budget), and in the end, he decided on Xiaomi (I guess because it was easily accessible as well).
We initially visited their store in Trinoma, but at that time, one of the cameras that the Cupcake wanted to buy was out of stock. So we only got to buy the Mi Home Security Camera, which we placed at an angle that could capture the entire unit from one side.
We ended up buying the Mi Home Security Camera 360* 1080P from Lazada, which arrived 2 or 3 business days later. This was placed on top of a cabinet that captures the unit from another angle, and which also covers the main door.
Both have night vision and motion detection, are connected to the WiFi, and controlled by an app. You can hear everything that’s happening through the audio, but I usually keep it on mute when I’m monitoring from the office. The best part is I can talk to both pets when I press the Speaker button from the app.
Someone from the Facebook group asked me how the image quality is, and I guess the screenshot photos speak for themselves! Our home WiFi is PLDT Fibr 15mbps, and though we encounter problems with PLDT sometimes (don’t we all?), it isn’t so bad.

Captured a little before 6pm using my phone’s data
We’ve been using both cameras for about four months now, and so far we haven’t experienced major problems. I did read someone’s comment that his broke after a few months, so he switched to a different brand. Hopefully that was a lemon product, and that ours will last for as long as it can.
Do you have any questions about our cameras? Feel free to post them in the comments, and I’ll answer them right away!
What Pet CCTV I Use to Monitor Booboo and Bellatrix
Hi, everyone! My name is Gretchen Gatan Fragada. If you’re new here, I’m a writer and managing editor based in Metro Manila, Philippines. Welcome to Greta’s Junkyard where I like to document and write about my favorite things—mostly beauty, home, lifestyle, and my journey as a first-time mom. It’s been three years since my husband Cayo and I tied the knot. Since then, we’ve achieved many of our dreams and goals together—from moving into our forever home, the #FraggyHome, to having our baby girl Cambria. But this 2023 was the first time we really sat down and reflected on the goals we want to achieve for ourselves and as partners. Read more about how our goal setting and alignment went!
With my husband Cayo, our daughter Cambria, and our OG babies, Booboo and Bellatrix
It all started when we saw this on Twitter and thought it to be a good idea. So we followed the same format for setting our goals.
My husband and I did an “annual planning” for the very first time, and it was a game changer for both of us.
We’re more aligned on our goals than ever + ready to attack the new year.
Here’s what to do: prepare a nice meal, grab a glass of wine + answer these questions:
One lesson I learned in 2022, especially as I was navigating motherhood for the first time, was to learn to accept help and choose my battles wisely. I’m also currently going through episodes of postpartum rage and anxiety, so I really hope to be able to leave my anger and resentment in 2022.
I’m lucky that Cayo is a good provider. He’s disciplined with his finances, and he balances me out. He knows how to manage me, particularly during my dark episodes. And he’s really committed to taking care of our whole family.
Goal Setting for 2023
I have a lot of little goals for myself such as decluttering clothes I no longer wear to make room in our walk-in closet. Also, I hope to be able to compete in an Ultimate Frisbee tournament again. Before I became a mom, I was a competitive athlete. And it would be nice to bring back that side of me to help me stay fit and healthy. Lastly, since Cambria entered the picture, Cayo and I haven’t gone on a romantic date yet. So this 2023, our goal is to go on dates at least once a month.
We have a lot of upcoming trips for our family—both local and international. And I’m really looking forward to those! Especially because I love seeing Cambria experience the world and discover more things around her.
Financially, I have some goals that I’m determined to accomplish. Apart from growing Cambria’s money through Tonik Bank’s time deposit, I want to build more Time Deposits and Stashes for myself.
Tips on How to Save and Grow Money
In saving up and growing my money, some of the things I started doing that have really helped me include:
Making a list of all my monthly payables so I know how much to set aside
Additionally, I discovered a site called calculator.me that offers a ton of different free financial calculators. You can choose from Loan Amortization, Mortgage Calculators, Auto Calculators, Savings Calculators, Financial Planning, and more.
The website started in 2013 with the goal of offering consumers a collection of no-nonsense calculation tools through a clean user experience. There are no banner ads, pop-ups, and registration walls. No need to enter personal information either!
Free tools like these are so useful and can truly help anyone achieve the financial goals they’ve set for themselves.
Let’s Do This, 2023!
2022 was a huge period of adjustment for me. But this year, after setting goals with Cayo and for myself, I’m intent on attaining them as well as growing even more.

When the pandemic first started and lockdowns forced everyone to work from home, my husband and I still lived in a studio unit in Makati. This was because we both worked in offices nearby and had clingy pets who needed tending every lunchtime. It was a temporary and practical solution while we waited for our house in a quiet village in Quezon City, which I often refer to as our forever home or the #FraggyHome, to finish construction. At that time, living near our offices meant we didn’t have to worry about gas or parking. Home Buddies
But during the ECQ, we encountered several challenges in relation to living in a small space. For one, our pets—a male Shih Tzu dog and a female Persian cat named Booboo and Bellatrix—gained a bit of weight due to lack of exercise. We struggled a bit more with Booboo. As a potty-trained dog, he refused to pee or poo anywhere in our condo. This was a problem when walking dogs became prohibited during the ECQ. We had to resort to making him pee or poo in our building’s basement.
Another challenge was the work-from-home setup. Since we lived in a studio unit, our working space was just a few steps away from our sleeping space. And it didn’t serve us well mentally. Lines between work and life became blurred. It was so easy to feel burned out right away.
The Emergence of Home Buddies
Around the time we were getting ready to move into our forever home, a Facebook group called Home Buddies emerged. Here, people either shared how they transformed their homes or spaces to accommodate the new normal. It was also where people asked for recommendations or ideas if they wanted to spruce up theirs.
I enjoyed getting inspiration as well as sharing my own tried-and-tested tips and insights! It was evident by how quickly the group grew that people put a lot more value in real estate. Those who lived in condominiums filled their areas with plants to bring a little bit of the outside in. Meanwhile, those like us who lived in houses and had more breathing space were very fortunate to have parks and trees surrounding us.
The Appreciation of Lots in the North and South
Because the pandemic made people realize that it’s perfectly feasible to work from home, more and more started looking into buying houses and lots in the north and south provinces of Metro Manila. Aside from being more affordable, they’re becoming more developed as well. There are easily accessible schools, hospitals, malls, and more. The pandemic suddenly made people want to get away from the congested city and be surrounded by more trees, flowers, and space instead.
Crosswinds Tagaytay
If you’re one of those interested in investing in a house or lot, you can use an online calculator to give you a rough estimate of what you need to pay if you plan to apply for a home loan. Though it’s catered to the UK market, the math pretty much works the same here in the Philippines. You can simply convert the currency. It even has a feature which allows you to link to a specific calculation with the results already filled in. The link appears below your calculated results when you press the calculation button.
Moreover, what makes the site unique are the graphs of loan repayment along with monthly and yearly amortization tables. You can estimate affordability and even print amortization schedules. It’s a very useful tool if you want to see the math before making any big decisions.
Everyone is a Home Buddy
Facebook groups like Home Buddies and online mortgage calculators that help you estimate affordability are the new things millennials are interested in. These make it less intimidating when it comes to the consideration of buying a bigger home. If you have any questions about these, feel free to comment below! I’ll try my best to answer as soon as possible.
If you follow me on Instagram @gretchengatan, then you’ve probably seen me share a few photos from my cozy and relaxed maternity shoot at home. Originally, I wasn’t planning to do a maternity shoot anymore since I think I documented my pregnancy journey quite well. However, when a lovely photographer reached out for a collaboration, the magazine editor in me couldn’t help but jump at the opportunity to look for pegs and create a deck. So if you’re looking for maternity shoot ideas at home, I hope you can find inspiration from mine!
My Deck and Pegs for my Maternity Shoot at Home
Here’s the simple deck I came up with. I did my own hair and makeup, of course! Meanwhile, for the styling, I wore whatever was available in my closet for the first and second layouts. For the third layout, I bought a pink Frill Cotton Dress from Mango on ZALORA. My husband, on the other hand, wore whatever was available in his closet for all three layouts.
Maternity Shoot at Home Layouts
We just held the shoot in our home. Two layouts were done in our bedroom while one layout was done in the garden area. As someone who has done numerous cover girl shoots in the past, I can guarantee that any area can be made into a set design. You just need good lighting and an equally good photographer. Luckily, we had both! If your lighting is limited, try scheduling the shoot in the morning to take advantage of natural light.
First Layout
Flowers make me so happy, and I wanted one of the layouts to incorporate my favorite flowers—carnations and roses. I ordered bouquets online through one of the Dangwa Facebook groups and had them delivered during the morning of the shoot. The roses bloomed just in time but I realized that carnations take longer to bloom. Oh well!
Second Layout
For the second layout, we were able to include our fur babies—Booboo and Bellatrix. I also took inspiration from our engagement shoot and wedding prep shoot with Nicolai Melicor where we wore pajamas!
Third Layout
Last but not least is the third layout, where we were a bit more dressed up. I love how the color of my dress really popped amidst the backgrounds!
Maternity Shoot at Home with ZM Photography
Our photographer that day was Zyna Molines of ZM Photography. She does family, portrait, and lifestyle photography within Metro Manila. You can check out her Instagram and Facebook for her portfolio. Additionally, you can email her at hellozmphoto@gmail.com for bookings and inquiries. Though she’s not a big-time photographer just yet, I loved working with her. She was quick, professional, and she took good shots despite the short amount of time. She had her own lighting equipment as well. We finished in about two hours or less. I highly recommend her! In fact, I’d love to work with her again in the future. Perhaps I can book her for a family shoot once our baby girl arrives.
I hope you were able to get some maternity shoot ideas at home from my photos. If you have any questions, comment below! Don’t forget to also follow me @gretchengatan on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube to stay updated with all things beauty, home, lifestyle, motherhood, and pet care.
Hi, everyone! I’m so excited to announce that there’s a new podcast in the Philippines: Co-Capts. My husband and I have been working on this for a while now mostly because we love talking to each other. And so we thought to ourselves, “Why not start a podcast where we can talk about things we love talking about?” With that as our inspiration, Co-Capts was born! Co-Capts, short for co-captains, is a podcast where we hope to share our experiences of running a home, building a family, and everything in between. Join us as we come up with our own playbook to compete in the biggest challenge that is life!
Podcast Philippines: What is Co-Capts All About?
We started Co-Capts because we wanted an outlet where we could talk about our experiences and challenges as a young, married couple about to start a family. But it doesn’t stop there! Apart from topics on home, parenthood, and pet care, we plan to talk about anything under the sun! We do have our own fandoms, hobbies, and interests that we’d love to talk about on the podcast.
Why is Our Podcast Called Co-Capts?
Back in 2011, Cayo and I were Ultimate Frisbee teammates and co-captains. For several leagues, we worked together and led our team. Eventually, our friendship developed and we officially got together on December 13, 2013, before getting married on September 13, 2019.
We’re currently expecting our first child! We also have a Shih Tzu named Booboo and a Persian Doll Face named Bellatrix. Together, we make up the Co-Capts team!
Where is Our Podcast Available?
You can listen to Co-Capts on Spotify, Apple, and Google. Our pilot episode is out now where we introduced ourselves and how our relationship started. We took the opportunity as well to look back on our wedding day and share our favorite moments since we recently celebrated our 2nd wedding anniversary!
I’m inviting you all to check out the newest podcast in the Philippines: Co-Capts! Aside from being available on Spotify, Apple, and Google, you can follow us on Instagram @cocapts. If there are any topics you’d like to suggest or recommend, email us at cocaptsthepodcast@gmail.com.
The Cupcake and I recently moved into our forever home, the #FraggyHome. But I realized we needed storage solutions for certain areas after we settled in. Luckily, around the same time that we were moving in, Cutting Edge Storage Solutions offered to send a stainless steel rack and storage carts. So during one weekend, my husband and I (with the help of my brother-in-law), set them up. If you’re looking for a stainless steel rack and other storage solutions for your home, check out the items below!
About Cutting Edge Storage Solutions
Cutting Edge Storage Solutions is simply what its name embodies—storage. They aim to help you solve your space and kalat problems. From small installations to larger varieties, they have a whole selection of shelves and racks available! Their products are durable and affordable. They also come in minimalist designs that can fit any home’s aesthetic.
The Fraggy Home’s Stainless Steel Rack and Storage Carts
Take a look at how we were able to use the stainless steel rack and storage carts that they gave.
I’m a lurker on Pinterest, Home Buddies, and other platforms where people find inspiration for their homes. I knew I wanted a storage cart to place in the guest bathroom, which also happens to be where our pets, Booboo and Bellatrix, take a bath. Haha! I used the cart to store their bath essentials. You can find an air freshener, a plant, and extra toilet paper as well—to make it convenient for my siblings and cousins who love to visit and use this bathroom.
The second storage cart is in our kitchen. I’m not yet done fixing and organizing our things so it’s still empty. But I know that this will be very useful here! The cart has the following dimensions:
Length: 40 cm
Depth: 22 cm
Height: 85 cm
It has a powder paint finish and comes in black and white colors.
Perhaps the most useful is the multi-purpose 4-layer stainless steel rack that we placed in our service area. We adjusted the height of each shelf to accommodate our water dispensers and laundry detergents. One of the water dispensers is hidden by a black cover that I got from Misis Home Maker. But yes, a shelf can fit up to three water dispensers! In fact, the total capacity of the whole rack is 200 kilograms (about 50 kilograms per shelf).
The rack got wet when it rained in our village recently. But it was easy to clean, and I didn’t have to worry about it rusting. I plan to put more things here once I finally have the time to organize our space. For now, I’m so thankful that Cutting Edge Storage Solutions was indeed able to solve my kalat problem in this area of our home.
If you’d like to see what else they have, you can visit their official store on Lazada. Be sure to also follow them on Facebook and Instagram to stay updated with promos and other announcements.
If there’s one thing I’ve been doing a little too much lately, it’s shopping online—particularly from Lazada. It amazes me how I can buy anything and everything I need (or want) through the app—from items for the #FraggyHome, to our fur babies’ essentials, to groceries! These past few weeks, I’ve been buying a lot of things to improve our home and quality of life. And if you’re like me who loves adding to cart and waiting for the next Lazada sale to checkout, you might want to consider these tried and tested items I have, so you can take advantage of the Lazada 9th Birthday Sale happening on March 27, 2021. I made sure to link each item to the product page!
This is the Asahi Retro Wooden Stand Fan in our bedroom, which I bought as a gift for myself. Haha!
And here’s the one in our living area, which my cousin gifted as a “house-cooling” gift. Get it? Haha!
Since we moved from a temporary studio unit in Makati to our forever home (a 2-story house with two bedrooms), we needed to buy electric fans for our main bedroom, home office, and living and dining room. Following a “Japandi Meets Coastal” aesthetic, I really fell in love with the Asahi Retro Wooden Stand Fan. It just looks so good against the corners of our spaces! Though it only comes with a 16-inch diameter, it’s surprisingly strong. No. 1 sometimes feels like No 2.
Before the pandemic, I usually got my sweat session on by playing Ultimate Frisbee once or twice a week. But because that’s not happening anytime soon, I decided to up my workout game at home. Apart from getting my cardio fix by biking or jogging around the village, I also invested in weighted bangles from Above Athletica that I like to use when doing leg raises or arm-toning exercises. If you click on the link and visit their page, you’ll find so many items on sale—like their yoga mats, resistance bands, and protein powders.
3. Nespresso Inissia – P7,921 (from P8,900) during the Lazada 9th Birthday Sale
My Coffee Corner in our #FraggyHome
For my birthday, the Cupcake got me a Nespresso Inissia machine to feed my obsession with coffee. I love that together with my Breville Smart Grinder Pro, French Press, and bone china teacups from Natty Finds, I was able to create my own coffee nook at home.
I’ve had this for a few years now and it’s never failed to make my hair look good.
Panasonic’s Nanoe Hair Dryer was built with the Nano-E and Platinum Ions Technology to protect hair from UV rays. It moisturizes the scalp and lets sebum be removed easily when shampooing. It also has a quick-dry nozzle, and keeps your hair and scalp both healthy and hygienic! If you’re looking to upgrade your blowdryer, this is a really good option to consider.
INSPI’s shirts are so comfy, they’re part of my staple WFH outfits.
I think I have about three or four shirts from INSPI—all of them Star Wars-themed (to my husband’s delight). They’re extremely comfortable that I love wearing them as my work-from-home shirts.
While the Retro Wooden Stand Fan has a 16-inch diameter, this one is bigger by 2 inches.
My husband is a very pawisin person and prefers big fans like the Asahi PF 840 Stand Fan. And since we share a home office, I decided to get one for that space. It’s able to keep it cool despite two (or more) PCs running.
For obvious reasons, I got this particular design from Blue Water. Haha!
Back when we lived in a studio unit, I had a Young Living Dew Drop Home Diffuser to help alleviate my allergic rhinitis. I placed that in our bedroom and decided to buy another diffuser, this time from Blue Water, to place in our living room. It was 50% off so I definitely got it for a steal!
It looks so pretty against our home’s “Japandi Meets Coastal” aesthetic.
In keeping with the theme of our home, this wooden tissue box was something I ordered from a random seller on Lazada to place in our dining area. It was relatively cheap so I kept my expectations low. True enough, the wood tends to fall out whenever I pull tissue. So instead, I use it more as a paperweight to prevent tissue from flying.
I really liked the minimalist design of this shower curtain, so I bought one (also from a random store) to see the quality. We ended up using it in our bathroom! The material is thin but durable. I just wasn’t a fan of the plastic smell upon opening. But it eventually faded after a few days.
Those are just ten out of so many things I’ve ordered from Lazada. I wasn’t able to include my other purchases yet because I haven’t used them or taken pictures. I’ll try to show those in another blog post soon! In the meantime, be sure to check the next Lazada sale happening on March 27, 2021. Happy shopping!

As a very passionate pet parent, I only want the best for both Booboo and Bellatrix. Part of that is feeding them the best pet food brand available in the market, and for me, that’s Royal Canin.
I’ve been feeding them Royal Canin for a few years now. Aside from reading good reviews online, it was highly recommended by their vet.
We made the shift because Booboo, our Shih Tzu, was slowly entering his senior dog stage, while Bellatrix, our Persian Doll Face, has always been an indoor cat and we wanted something more fit for her breed and lifestyle.
Royal Canin’s Breed Specific Line addressed these needs. It was an easy switch because Booboo and Bellatrix liked their respective food right away!
Booboo eats his meals twice a day. I feed him late in the morning, and then again during dinner. Sometimes, I give him a treat late in the evening to prevent him from throwing up bile early in the morning. (This tends to happen at his age.) Meanwhile, Bellatrix prefers eating small frequent meals a day, so we just “free feed” her dry food by leaving a semi-automatic feeder near her water fountain. On some days, she prefers wet food. These are the moments we “meal feed” her.
Recently, Royal Canin sent over a gift that we unboxed together:
They also put together this special video featuring Booboo and Bellatrix, and what makes their breeds unique! I find myself watching it over and over, only because I can’t get enough of the two of them.
In case you’d like to know more about the brand and their tailored health nutrition for cats and dogs, visit their website here. You can also follow them on Facebook and Instagram to stay updated!
Unboxing with Royal Canin: The Best Pet Food Brand
For the first time ever, Booboo makes his “deboo” as a vlogger by reviewing healthy dog treats!
Just in case you’re new to the blog, Booboo is my 9-year-old Shih Tzu. He’s been my constant companion since college, and I always make sure he knows how loved and appreciated he is. In fact, Booboo (and our cat, Bellatrix) are big factors whenever my husband and I discuss important decisions, because we want to make sure that the decision doesn’t affect them nor require them to adjust too much.
You can read more about Booboo and Bellatrix below, or follow them on Instagram: @boobooandbellatrix.
Booboo was recently sent healthy dog treats by Barker Bites, and I decided to have fun by making his first ever video review!
Booboo is extremely picky when it comes to his food and snacks, so I was happy to see how much he enjoyed these Peanut Butter Biscuits. They’re made with simple ingredients and homemade peanut butter by fellow dog lover, Sophia de Dios. The treats are placed in an eco-friendly bag and has a note from Sophia’s dog, Watson. Watson assures they’re vet-approved and safe to eat!
Aside from making yummy dog treats, Barker Bites promises to donate 5% of their profit to PAWS, the Philippines’ peak animal welfare NGO and leading advocate for the humane treatment of animals.
To order from Barker Bites, and to support a small business with a big heart, follow Barker Bites on Instagram and just send them a direct message! They have a lot of exciting things in store, so be sure to stay tuned.
