Poetry and Prose Patisserie: French Cuisine in Shangri-la Mall
Recently, I went to Shangri-la Mall to get a massage at The Spa. After that, I got a little hungry so the Cupcake and I looked around for a restaurant we could dine in. I wanted to try something new as usual. It took a while, until this pristine place caught my eye. The name alone is enough to pique the interest of any writer or literature major: Poetry and Prose Patisserie, located along the strip of restaurants outside Shangri-la Mall.
It’s a delightful-looking restaurant—the walls are clean and white, decorated with quotes and attractive pastries. We ordered the Smoked Salmon and Ricotta Cheese in Dill Phyllo Packet (Php 545), which were thin and crispy pastries rolled up and filled with smoked salmon and crumbled ricotta cheese, and Crepe Florentine (Php 345), a thin traditional crepe with sauteed spinach, Parmesan cheese, and ricotta cheese, covered in thick mozzarella.
It’s a little on the expensive side, given the quantity of the food. While I was quite messy eating the packets (they kept cracking, and I was spilling crumbs all over the plate), I was also unhappy that the ricotta cheese overpowered the smoked salmon flavor. Nonetheless, I really enjoyed the Crepe Florentine, which blended all cheeses together. For dessert, we shared a plate of L’Opera—which tasted very similar to a Tiramisu cake.
It was a nice experience dining in the quaint French restaurant. Perhaps it’s a place other writers and poetry lovers will want to try for themselves as well.
