My Updated Skincare Routine for Oily and Acne-Prone Skin
A few months ago, I wrote about how to care for oily and combination skin. After that, I wrote about the perfect skin regimen featuring Avene’s Eau Thermale Cleanance Gel and Lotion. With the right combination of products, I came up with an updated skincare routine for oily and acne-prone skin, which works amazing on me because my skin looks more radiant than ever, plus I rarely get pimples now (save for some days where I’m about to get my period) .
Again, I have to remind you guys that what works for me may not always work for others and what works for others may not always work on me. It’s always best to consult with your dermatologist to avoid breakouts or negative reactions to some of the products I’m using.
Day Time
During the day, I start off by washing my face with the Cleanance Gel. What I normally do is gently but thoroughly spread the facial wash in circles, beginning with my cheeks, working my way up to my forehead, then concentrating on my nose or T-zone area. I let it stay for about a minute before washing it off.
Once I’m done washing my face and taking a shower, I proceed to my vanity mirror and shake the Cleanance Lotion to make sure the powdery substance in the bottom gets mixed really well with the rest of the product. Using a cotton ball, I swipe it upwards starting with my cheeks, forehead, nose, and chin. Allow it to dry for about 30 seconds.
For my eye cream, I received the L’Oreal Revitalift Laser from L’Oreal Paris Philippines last Christmas, and have been using it twice a day ever since. I really love that it comes with a cooling metal applicator, which helps soothe tired eyes. I feel like it plumps up my skin, too. After applying the Cleanance Lotion, I gently spread just a small amount of the anti-aging eye cream around my eyes then let it set for another 30 seconds.
I only use Avene’s Cleanance K when I have pimples present or if I see one about to formulate, because it helps dry up the pimples quick. But if I don’t have pimples, I just proceed to applying sunblock on my face and neck.
Night Time
In the evening, I use the same facial wash but instead of the Cleanance Lotion as my toner, I use Burt’s Bees’ Garden Tomato Toner, which is highly recommended for those with oily and troubled skin. I use the same eye cream, then I apply Epiduo—a combination of adapalene and benzoyl peroxide, two ingredients that help decrease acne formation and kills bacteria that causes acne.
I finish it off by applying my favorite moisturizer, Burt’s Bees’ Radiance Night Cream.
After months (for some of them, years) of using the products above, accompanied by monthly diamond peel sessions, I noticed that my skin further improved and I’m hoping that as time passes, it’ll lessen the fine lines around my eyes and minimize my pores.

I’m supposed to be working now but I’m so glued to your blog posts and I kept reading page after page hahaha My dermatologists recommended epiduo for spot treatment a couple of years back, I’ve been using it since then and I love it. I also use alba botanica deep cleanse astringent, it reduced my breakouts and dried out active pimples, it’s the best toner I have ever tried.

Awww. You’re the sweetest, Pat! 🙂 Haha. I use Epiduo as well. This is the first time I heard of Alba Botanica Deep Cleanse Astringent. I’ll check that out! 🙂

Thank you so much for your skincare posts! We have very similar skin types but I’m still on the look out for the solid skin care regime. After much consideration, I decided to purchase these Avene products (they didn’t give me a free Cleanance K though. Boo! ) you recommended and use them along with Epiduo (which I’ve been using for years). And I must admit, combined together, they have huge potential. 🙂

Great reviews! Will try avene soon. But epiduo is nakakablack ng pimples kasi may benzoyl peroxide siya.. Yun po kasi effect sakin.. So i stop using it na.. Tea tree gel is effective to me

I heard Epiduo has a tendency to do that if you apply too much, that’s why my derma always reminded me to apply a thin layer only. 🙂
