My Updated Basic Skincare Routine While Pregnant: Products for Oily Skin
It’s been a couple of months since I last wrote about my skincare routine while pregnant. Since then, I’ve finished a few bottles and decided to update my routine with new products! So far, I’ve been happy with the current products I’ve been using. And in case you’re looking to build a basic skincare routine, pregnant or not, you can check out my daytime and evening routines below. I’ve linked the products to online shops where you can buy them from. Just a quick disclaimer that some links are affiliate links where I may earn a small commission to help me maintain my blog.
Basic Daytime Skincare Routine
For my daytime routine, I decided to add a serum to lessen the serums I use at night. I still use the same cleanser, eye creams, and moisturizer but everything else is pretty much new! Like in my previous skincare routine, I made sure that all the products I use don’t have salicylic acid or retinol. According to some studies, these two ingredients can affect the development of babies. You can read more about safe skincare during pregnancy in my article on Modern Parenting!
CLEANSER: Kiehl’s Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash (P800)
As mentioned, I started using Kiehl’s when I ran out of my Avene Eau Thermale Cleanance Gel, which is a facial wash I’ve been using since college. I thought it was about time I tried something new for a change. What I love about Kiehl’s Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash is its citrus scent. It’s such a refreshing and invigorating scent that always makes me look forward to doing my skincare routine. Once or twice a week, I wash my face with FOREO’s Luna 3 for a deeper cleanse.
TONER: Son and Park Beauty Water (P798)
I first discovered Son and Park’s Beauty Water through my beauty-obsessed former colleagues in 2018. The simple and minimalist packaging immediately attracted me. But it was only this year that I really got to try it when I ran out of my Good Molecules toner. Prior to Good Molecules, I was also using an Avene toner that has been in my routine since college. However, because it contained salicylic acid, I opted not to replenish it first.
That was when I remembered Son and Park’s Beauty Water, which has been so popular in Korea. It’s a multi-tasking toner and cleansing water that mildly exfoliates. It contains papaya extract, witch hazel water, lavender water, rose water, and orange fruit extract. Aside from sweeping away dead skin cells, it reveals a brighter skin tone and keeps skin hydrated. You can use it in the morning to create the perfect canvas for makeup application, in the middle of the day as a refresher, and at night to cleanse dirt and impurities.
SERUM: The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid Serum (P1,290)
I decided to add my hyaluronic acid serum to my daytime routine to lessen all the serums I use in the evening. Hyaluronic acid is so good for delivering hydration and makes skin visibly plumper and smoother. After my toner, I pat this serum gently on my face and wait a few seconds to let it dry. Then I move on to my eye cream, AHC’s The Real Eye Cream for Face (P1,350)!
SUNSCREEN: Anessa Mild Milk (P1,990)
Recently, I attended the launch of Anessa’s Mild Series—a line of sunscreen for sensitive skin. I really love their Mild Milk because of the light texture and fragrance-free formula. It also has a matte finish that’s ideal for my oily skin.
Basic Evening Skincare Routine
For my evening skincare routine, I use the same cleanser and toner. So I’ll start the list with my serums!
SERUM 1: Good Molecules Niacinamide Serum (P375)
To minimize the appearance of pores and keep my skin smooth and even, I retained niacinamide. This ingredient is known to refine the skin tone and reveal a brighter, healthier-looking complexion. It’s safe for pregnant and breastfeeding moms as well.
SERUM 2: ISNTREE Tone + Wrinkle Real BIFIDA Ampoule (P1,299)
When Seek Space sent this over, I was so excited to try it right away. According to their website, the product has a high concentration of BIFIDA that repairs damaged skin barriers and returns it to its tight and wrinkle-free form. Additionally, it has fermented extracts that protect the skin against pollution and other damaging forces, and supply nutrition for healthy, glowing skin.
EYE CREAM: Innisfree Jeju Orchid Eye Cream (P1,690)
This is another product I’ve been using for a while now! Preview even did a feature on why I like it.
MOISTURIZER: AHC 365 Red Cream (P2,549)
Again, this is a product from my previous skincare routine. It’s a lightweight moisturizer that I enjoy massaging all over my face.
GUA SHA: The Collective’s Gua Sha (P1,250)
Ever since I accidentally broke my rose quartz Gua Sha, I’ve been eyeing this particular stainless steel one. I absolutely love using it after my serums and moisturizer. It just feels so cooling and refreshing on the skin! I feel like it’s also effective in getting rid of bloat—something I’ve been trying to prevent or avoid while pregnant. Moreover, it can help de-puff eyes and minimize dark circles. Plus, it can boost collagen production! Using a Gua Sha has so many benefits and I’m so glad I invested in The Collective’s stainless steel Gua Sha.
